My Spanish Journey—Mi camino con Español

Schooling

  • I began my journey of learning Spanish in middle school at the age of 12 years old —I was immediately hooked. I wanted to learn more, speak more, hear more, read more. This fueled me to expand my knowledge of the language through my young adult years.

  • I continued engaging in Spanish classes in high school and went on to graduate from Wittenberg University with a minor in Spanish in 2015.

Living in Mexico

  • After graduating from college, I moved to Mexico City to live and volunteer for a year, immersing myself and falling more in love with the language and Mexican culture.

  • During that time, I lived with a host family, volunteered in local centers, and also met my now-husband, Manuel, furthering my connection to the language.

  • I spoke only Spanish wherever I went and with whomever I met. By the time I left Mexico, I was able to fluently speak, write, read, and interpret Spanish.

Life-Long Learner

  • My journey is far from over! I speak Spanish in my household daily, with my husband and my in-laws, I go back to Mexico often to visit family and friends, read books in Spanish, and I love listening to music in Spanish— some of my favorites are Natalia LaFourcade, Bomba Estereo, and Julieta Venegas.

  • Since Spanish is my second language, I never stop growing in knowledge- I am committed to being a life-long learner so I can best support my students!
